Joel Thomas: My Journey

Welcome to my personal blog! I am Joel Thomas, a lifelong Apostolic from Sanford, NC. Born in November 1959, my faith journey began with my parents, Bill and Shirley Thomas, who instilled in me the values of the Apostolic faith. I was baptized by Bishop G. L. Akers in 1972 and received the Holy Ghost that same year. This blog is a space for me to share my reflections on faith, family, and community, as I navigate my spiritual journey at 66 years old.

Thank you for your response. ✨

Let me introduce myself. My name is Joel Thomas, I have been a member of First Apostolic Church of Sanford, NC since my birth in November of 1959. My Mom and Dad were both Jesus named baptized, Holy Ghost filled, holy living children of God. At the age of 12 years old, January and February of 1972 I was baptized in Jesus name and filled with the Holy Ghost. My parents were always great examples of committed Apostolics and I have been incredibly blessed to have tremendous pastors that have poured into me, my entire life. Bishop G L Akers from spring of 1967 till May of 1988; Senior pastor G L Akers Jr from May of 1988 till today; and in the last few years Pastor Adam Akers who will be my senior pastor in God’s time and schedule,

As I previously said I have been blessed to have had pastors that have constantly pour into me and encouraged me always to maintain a servant’s heart and totally invest myself into God and FAC, As a result of that I started playing drums at the age of 12 years old and progressed to bass guitar and guitar in the years after. Around 16 years old God began to deal with me about piano and the organ and I had a great desire to minister in music through those medians. Around 18 years old my pastor began to use me on the piano and organ and by 21 or 22 years I was blessed to be the primary piano/keyboard player for FAC of Sanford for the next 25 years or so.

I have always felt the call of ministry upon my life and my calling has always been to be a local minister of FAC of Sanford. In that flow God and pastor George Akers allow me to be the Children’s Ministries Director for about 20 years and through many Holy Ghost Sundays and many regular services and revivals I have been blessed to assist multiple generations of children and new saints receive the Holy Ghost.

I was ordained as an elder for FAC of Sanford, Southeastern District of the Assemblies of the Lord Jesus Christ on December 30, 2007.

I minister at FAC of Sanford under the direction of my pastor and have been blessed to minister in a few other truth believing church.

I hope to share thoughts, experiences, and scripture as God leads with the desire to encourage, strengthen, and equip the family of God. See you in the blog!
